Female Passenger Killed in Queensboro Bridge Motorcycle Accident

Queensboro Bridge accident claims life

According to recent reports from police, a female motorcycle passenger is dead after an accident on the Queensboro Bridge. Police say that the 32-year-old Bronx woman was riding on a motorcycle around 3:20 a.m. The motorcycle she was on was clipped from behind by another motorcycle. The impact of the clip sent the woman off the bike and to the ground. She was then hit by the second motorcycle. Once at the accident scene, first responders pronounced her dead.

The other people involved in the accident, including the male driver of the other motorcycle, were treated for minor injuries. Police continue to investigate the accident but have yet to charge anyone.

High Risks for Victims of Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists face a higher risk of injury and even death when involved in traffic accidents than those in passenger vehicles. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,668 people died in motorcycle crashes in 2013. Another 88,000 victims were injured. Though both numbers are a slight decrease from the previous year, motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die in a crash and five times more likely to be injured in a crash than passenger vehicle occupants.

What If I Am Injured in a Motorcycle Accident?

Motorcycle accidents are not uncommon. There are many reasons a motorcyclist could crash. Often motorcycles are hit by other vehicles on the road. This may be due to motorcycles being smaller and not as easy for drivers to see. Some drivers also fail to use proper caution when driving. This carelessness can cause serious injury and even death to someone on a motorcycle.

Those who are injured and survive likely face a long road to recovery and high medical bills. If you have a long recovery period, it is unlikely you will be able to work which means you may face a loss in wages. When facing a situation like this it is important to know that a personal injury attorney may be able to help.
