Police Continue Search for Driver in Fatal Queens Hit-and-Run Accident

When people get into a New York car accident, the law requires that they remain on the scene for a long enough period of time to allow for an exchange of information so that insurance issues and anything else can be handled.  If someone is involved in a crash where someone is seriously injured or killed and then flees the scene, that person has committed a crime.  Sadly, police are still looking for a driver who was involved in a fatal Queens car accident that occurred late last week that took the life of a man who had been involved in a prior crash.

According to the authorities, this fatal Queens hit-and-run accident occurred on Thursday morning at just before 5 a.m.  A 67-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi rear-ended another vehicle on the Grand Central Parkway near 82nd Street.  He got out of his vehicle to get some tools from his trunk, and as he did so another driver came along and hit him, killing him as a result.  That third driver fled the scene as did the person who was involved in the prior crash.

New York Car Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the man who was killed in this Queens hit-and-run accident, and we hope that the driver involved is brought to justice soon.  In addition, this Queens car accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding New York car accidents.  Every year, more than 187,000 people are injured and more than 1,200 people are killed in these occurrences.

New York Wrongful Death Lawyers

Clearly, if or when the driver who fled the scene is apprehended, he or she will face serious criminal charges.  This person could also face a New York wrongful death lawsuit if the family of the man who was killed decides to initiate such a claim.  If they do and their case is successful, the family could be awarded damages that compensate them for their medical, funeral and burial costs as well as their lost income and their loss of companionship.

If you have lost someone you love in a collision, you need to seek the help of New York wrongful death lawyers who have been fighting for the rights of grieving families for many years.  Contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today to schedule a free initial consultation.
