Pleasantville Car Accident Leads to One Death, Two Serious Injuries

One of the more subtly difficult tasks when driving a vehicle is knowing when to make a left turn across lanes of oncoming traffic.  For the most part, this maneuver is accomplished successfully, but if it's not, everyone in any vehicle involved in the subsequent collision is put in an immediate situation of grave risk.  Tragically, one woman paid the ultimate price for a left turn gone wrong on Thursday night when she was killed in a Pleasantville car accident.  Two other people were seriously injured.

According to local police, the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. when Yolanda Ferrante of Somers, 65, attempted to make a left turn in her Honda SUV from the Saw Mill River Parkway onto Grant Street.  The turn itself was illegal, and the vehicle was struck by an oncoming Lexus.  One of the passengers in the Honda, 77-year-old Felice Imperioli of Yonkers, was killed and the two other passengers were seriously injured.  Both the driver of the Honda and the driver of the Lexus escaped without major injury.

New York Car Accident Statistics

We'd initially like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Imperioli.  Losing a life in such a sudden and violent manner is truly tragic, and we hope her family and those close to her are able to overcome their grief somehow.  In addition, this incident will only add to the overall statistics regarding New York car accidents.  Every year, approximately 187,000 people are injured and more than 1,200 are killed in these occurrences.

If the left turn that was attempted was illegal, it would only make any case that the family of the woman killed and the injured passengers have stronger.  If such lawsuits were filed against the driver, it's possible that damages could be awarded for medical costs, funeral and burial costs, loss of companionship and pain and suffering depending on the specifics of the claims filed and the evidence that's presented and accepted in court.
