New York Motorcycle Accident Leaves One Woman Dead, One Man Injured

Driving a motorcycle in the city is dangerous for many reasons, not the least of which includes the nearly constant congestion that directly exposes those on these vehicles to danger.  This danger is only exacerbated when someone in a large vehicle makes a mistake and collides with motorcyclists, and tragically that appears to be what occurred in a New York motorcycle accident on Saturday night that took the life of the motorcycle's passenger and injured the driver.

According to police, the New York motorcycle accident at issue occurred on Saturday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. The couple on the motorcycle was moving in a northbound direction on West End Avenue when a westbound van on West 65th Street plowed through the intersection of the two roads and collided with the bike.  Both people on the motorcycle were launched into the air, and the driver suffered serious injuries to his legs.  The female passenger struggled for a time after the collision but soon succumbed to her injuries.

New York Motorcycle Accident Statistics

First, we'd like to extend our condolences to the woman who was killed on the motorcycle, and we also hope that the man who was injured is able to recover from his injuries.  Sadly, this incident will only add to the statistics regarding New York motorcycle accidents overall.  Every year in the state, more than 5,000 New York motorcycle accidents occur, leading to nearly as many injuries and several hundred fatalities.

New York Motorcycle Accident Lawyers

If it turns out that the driver of the van was negligent, it's possible for both the injured motorcycle driver and the family of the woman who was killed to file lawsuits against this person.  If successful, damages could be awarded to the driver for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering and emotional distress, while the family of the woman could recover damages for funeral, burial and medical costs as well as lost income and loss of companionship.

If you or someone you love has been harmed in this sort of situation, you need the help of New York motorcycle accident lawyers who have been holding those responsible for this type of harm accountable for nearly 40 years.  Contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today at 1-800-323-9900 to schedule a free initial consultation.
