According to the authorities, this fatal New York pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. this morning when a 22-year-old Marine, who was here for Fleet Week, got out of a taxi cab and attempted to walk across Twelfth Avenue near 49th Street so he could report to his ship.  As he did so, he was hit by the driver of an Acura.  The collision appears to have been violent, and the man was killed instantly.  The other men in his group who were doing the same thing were not injured, and police have said that the driver will not be arrested.
