When tempers flare during the early morning hours in the city, things can go from tense to horrific in a matter of seconds. While nothing that's being alleged has yet been proven in a court of law, a cab driver could face serious criminal charges and other legal issues after he allegedly ran down a group of people he refused to drive from Manhattan to the Bronx in a New York pedestrian accident. Police have arrested the cab driver and are continuing their investigation.

According to authorities, this Manhattan pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. yesterday morning after a group of four men hailed a cab to drive them home after a night out. The men got into the cab but the driver refused to take them home. After the men asserted that the driver was bound to take them home, they drove to Midtown North Precinct station house. Police at the station told the cab driver to take them home, but he allegedly got into his cab and ran the men down outside of the precinct. 22-year-old Anthony Loreto was critically injured as a result, and 27-year-old Mohammed Azam was arrested later Sunday on suspicion of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

If it turns out that the facts as presented are true, then the cab driver will face serious criminal penalties. However, it should be noted that the driver's family asserts a very different set of facts. If the cab driver did run the men down and a New York personal injury lawsuit is filed in response, it could lead to a damages award that compensates the injured man for his medical costs, lost income and pain and suffering.
