Man Critically Injured in Manhattan Pedestrian Accident after Allegedly Being Run Down by Angry Cab Driver

When tempers flare during the early morning hours in the city, things can go from tense to horrific in a matter of seconds.  While nothing that's being alleged has yet been proven in a court of law, a cab driver could face serious criminal charges and other legal issues after he allegedly ran down a group of people he refused to drive from Manhattan to the Bronx in a New York pedestrian accident.  Police have arrested the cab driver and are continuing their investigation.

According to authorities, this Manhattan pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. yesterday morning after a group of four men hailed a cab to drive them home after a night out.  The men got into the cab but the driver refused to take them home.  After the men asserted that the driver was bound to take them home, they drove to Midtown North Precinct station house.  Police at the station told the cab driver to take them home, but he allegedly got into his cab and ran the men down outside of the precinct.  22-year-old Anthony Loreto was critically injured as a result, and 27-year-old Mohammed Azam was arrested later Sunday on suspicion of vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

New York Pedestrian Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to express our hope that the man who was critically injured in this Manhattan pedestrian accident is able to recover from the harm he has suffered.  In addition, this crash will now become part of the overall statistics regarding New York pedestrian accidents.  Every year, more than 15,000 such crashes occur, leading to nearly as many injuries and to more than 300 fatalities.

New York Personal Injury Lawyers

If it turns out that the facts as presented are true, then the cab driver will face serious criminal penalties.  However, it should be noted that the driver's family asserts a very different set of facts.  If the cab driver did run the men down and a New York personal injury lawsuit is filed in response, it could lead to a damages award that compensates the injured man for his medical costs, lost income and pain and suffering.  In addition, if it's proven that this accident was intentional, punitive damages could also be awarded.

If you or someone you love has been harmed in a crash, you need to seek the help of New York personal injury lawyers who have been successfully fighting for the rights of the injured for 40 years.  Contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today to schedule a free initial consultation.
