Gruesome New York Subway Accident Leaves Man Fighting for Life

Anyone who uses the subway in the city understands that there are dangers involved with certain locations near platforms and moving trains.  However, that doesn't mean that accidents do not happen, and unfortunately, one area man is fighting for his life after a fall on Friday that led to a horrifying New York subway accident.  Police are still attempting to decipher what exactly led to this accident while the victim remains on a ventilator.

According to authorities, this New York subway accident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday night at Union Square when 41-year-old Michael Dion somehow fell into a gap on the platform near the 4 train and was crushed through his midsection when the hydraulic platform extender engaged and moved through his abdomen.  It took nearly 30 minutes to free him as he screamed in agonizing pain.  He was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition with massive internal injuries.

New York Subway Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to offer our thoughts in hope that the man who was so gruesomely injured is able to recover from the horrifying harm he has suffered.  In addition, this New York subway accident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding these occurrences.  Every year, more than 20 people are killed in New York subway station accidents, and these occur for varying reasons that include suicides and accidental falls.

New York Personal Injury Lawyers

The large gaps between the platform and these subways has been a source of controversy in recent years, and if it's determined that the platform is responsible for these injuries, it's possible for the man who was harmed to file a New York personal injury lawsuit against the MTA after taking some procedural steps initially.  If such a lawsuit is ultimately filed and is successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensate the man for his medical costs, lost income and pain and suffering.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a New York subway accident, you need to seek the help of New York personal injury lawyers who have been successfully defending the rights of those harmed for nearly 40 years.  Contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today to schedule a free initial consultation.
