When people are injured in New York bus accidents, they tend to have to jump through a few hoops in order to hold the bus driver, the bus line and perhaps the municipality accountable for the injuries and harm they have suffered.  However, when someone is injured in a bus accident that was caused by an individual motorist, that person can proceed much like in the aftermath of any other crash.  That could be what ultimately occurs on the heels of a Brooklyn bus accident that occurred today that may have been caused by the driver of a privately owned vehicle.

According to the authorities, this Brooklyn bus accident occurred this morning at just after 10 a.m.  The driver of a car allegedly ran through a red light on Avenue J at an intersection in Brooklyn and slammed into a B11 bus.  While details remain difficult to ascertain, at least 3 of the 12 people who were injured in the crash were passengers on the bus.  All of the people who were harmed were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and observation, and no updates were provided on their conditions.

When motorists encounter intersections, they need to make instant and completely accurate internal calculations in order to determine whether or not turning left across oncoming lanes of traffic is a safe maneuver to make at that time.  Any mistake that's made either by the turning motorist or by someone who is approaching in the opposite direction can instantly lead to disaster.  Tragically, something went very wrong last weekend at an intersection that caused a Brooklyn car accident that led to one fatality and to one serious injury.

According to the authorities, this Brooklyn car accident occurred on Saturday at approximately 10:10 a.m.  An unidentified driver was attempting to make a left turn from Flatlands Avenue onto Louisiana Avenue when he was hit on his passenger side by an oncoming Infiniti sedan that had been moving in the opposite direction on Flatlands Avenue.  The man's wife was in the vehicle that was hit on the passenger side, and she was killed in the crash.  The man was critically injured.  Both the driver of the Infiniti and his 8-year-old son were injured in the other vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital.

Update: Manhattan Elevator Accident May Be Due to Technician Error

Accidents Injury Blog

Written by New York Injury Lawyer Tuesday, 28 February 2012 10:28

We have been following the developments regarding a horrifying Manhattan elevator accident that occurred in December in which a woman was killed when an elevator began to rise with the door open, crushing her to death.  The city has been investigating the situation since this incident occurred, and the initial results of that investigation indicate that the safety device on that elevator was disabled by mechanics only minutes before the accident took place.  The safety system would have prevented the elevator car from rising with the door open.

All of this investigation traces back to a terrible Manhattan elevator accident that occurred on December 14 when a 41-year-old woman was on her way to her job in the building located at 285 Madison Avenue near 40th Street.  As she stepped into the elevator with the door open, the car began to rise before she was all the way inside.  The elevator then crushed the woman to death as it hit the next floor.  The gruesome scene led to this investigation which could be nearing an end.

Building Elevator Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we would like to offer our hope that this investigation does come to a close soon and that it leads to fair and accurate results so that the family of the woman who was killed can achieve some sort of closure regarding this tragedy.  In addition, this fatal Manhattan elevator accident was hardly the first incident in general that has occurred in this building.  City statistics show that the elevators at this property have been cited at least 56 times in the past for a series of problems.

New York Wrongful Death Lawyers

It seems that, based on this developing investigation, that the city has identified who could potentially be responsible for this fatal Manhattan elevator accident.  As a result, these findings could lead to a filing of a New York wrongful death lawsuit against the mechanics and their employer.  If such a lawsuit is filed and it's successful, the family could recover damages that compensate them for their medical, funeral and burial costs as well as their lost income and their loss of companionship.

People who drive through the city during the morning hours tend to get used to the fact that there are usually children present on the roads as they attempt to get to school.  Crossing guards are deployed at intersections in order to help protect children from being hit by passing vehicles.  Unfortunately, the presence of crossing guards alone will not prevent accidents from happening.  Unfortunately, the presence of a crossing guard did not prevent a Harlem pedestrian accident from occurring this morning, as a vehicle hit and injured three people, including a crossing guard.

According to the authorities, this Harlem pedestrian accident occurred this morning at approximately 8 a.m.  A motorist approached the intersection of West 133rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue as a crossing guard was attempting to halt oncoming traffic so that children could cross on their way to school.  Unfortunately, it appears that the motorist did not stop, as the crossing guard and two children were hit by that driver.  Two of the three people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

New York Pedestrian Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to offer our thoughts and our hope to the people who were injured in this Harlem pedestrian accident, and we hope that the police are able to identify a specific cause to this crash soon.  In addition, this incident will now become part of the overall statistics regarding New York pedestrian accidents.  Every year, more than 15,000 of these crashes occur, leading to nearly as many injuries and also to more than 300 fatalities.

Bus drivers have difficult jobs, as they must drive through the city and deal with tight spaces, heavy traffic and pedestrians who can appear at almost any time.  However, bus drivers are also held to the same reasonable standards as others, and when they make mistakes situations can instantly turn to disaster.  Unfortunately, something went very wrong yesterday morning when a woman was hit and killed by a bus in a Queens pedestrian accident that occurred at a notoriously dangerous intersection.

According to the authorities, this fatal Queens pedestrian accident occurred yesterday morning at approximately 8:15 a.m.  A 22-year-old woman was attempting to cross the street at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Union Street in Flushing.  Witnesses stated that the bus was attempting to make a right turn at the same time, and the vehicle slammed into the woman who was running across the intersection.  The woman was hit hard and killed, and this incident marks the 92nd Queens pedestrian accident to occur at this intersection during the past 15 years.

When people need medical care and that need is urgent, those who provide this care need to recognize that urgency and do whatever is possible to make sure that the patient is receiving what would be considered a standard level of attention.  Unfortunately, that's allegedly not what happened recently to a man who was forced to wait for five hours for kidney dialysis, and the incident has resulted in a New York medical malpractice complaint being filed against a local medical facility.

Specifically, this allegation of New York medical malpractice was made against the Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, which is located at 374 Stockholm Street in Brooklyn.  A man reported to the facility on February 5 for kidney dialysis but allegedly waited for several hours.  Eventually, water began to spew from his mouth and he was treated.  However, a complaint was filed with the Joint Commission, and they stated that they are looking into this matter to determine what went wrong.

New York Medical Malpractice Statistics

First, we hope that the inquiry that's beginning with regards to these allegations of New York medical malpractice lead to fair, accurate and prompt results so that all of those involved can move on properly.  In addition, this incident could eventually become part of the overall statistics regarding New York medical malpractice cases.  Every year, approximately 4,000 claims of this type are made against medical practitioners, and approximately 1,800 of them are paid out in forms that include settlements and judgments.

New York Medical Malpractice Lawyers

While we are not sure what actually occurred with regards to this specific allegation of New York medical malpractice, in general when people are forced into positions of unnecessary risks and danger because of substandard care they can bring about New York medical malpractice lawsuits against those responsible for the harm that was done.  Successful claims can result in damages being awarded that compensate plaintiffs for their different forms of loss incurred.
