Study Finds Delay in Autism Diagnosis Tied to Symptoms Displayed
Written by Administrator Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:46
If your child has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, you unfortunately have become part of an alarming statistic in the United States. One of every 88 children born in the country is ultimately diagnosed with this condition, and that’s more than double the rate of diagnosis from approximately 10 years ago. No one is yet sure why this rate is skyrocketing in such a way, but researchers are working on ways to improve the diagnosis and treatment of autism in hopes of providing several benefits to those who are forced to live with this challenge.
Recent research has identified the idea that the earlier someone is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, the better off that child will be because he or she can begin to receive treatments and other forms of help immediately. This help can provide a child with benefits as he or she grows a bit older. Unfortunately, early diagnosis of autism has become increasingly difficult as the rate of diagnosis has gone up in recent years. According to a recent study, one of the problems associated with this diagnosis is tied to the specific symptoms that are displayed.

Cerebral Palsy and Yoga? More People Starting to Believe

If you are a parent whose child experienced a difficult birth where your baby was cut off from an oxygen supply for any period of time, you probably remember the terror that you felt and the extreme relief that you enjoyed when your child emerged and cried. Perhaps the troubling thoughts that you experienced during those moments lingered in the back of your mind only to return when you noticed that your child was simply not developing as quickly as most others and that he or she struggled with otherwise basic things.
If you are a parent whose child has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, you understand the difficulty involved with accepting such news. Your child will be forced to battle this condition throughout his or her life, as to date there is no cure for any of the different specific disorders that exists within the realm of cerebral palsy. Over time, as you saw your child continue to endure struggles, you were probably willing to try just about anything that didn’t place your child in a position of exposure to additional harm or stress.

Man Killed in Brooklyn After Being Hit by a Tractor Trailer
Written by New York Injury Lawyer Monday, 08 April 2013 15:23
Every year across New York, more than 15,000 pedestrian accidents occur that involve collisions between vehicles and people traveling on foot. Of these crashes, 15,000 people are injured and more than 300 people are killed. That means that 300 people are injured in these accidents every week and that 25 people are killed every month. This is a problem that continues to persist in the state, and it didn't get any better last week when a man was hit and killed by a tractor trailer in an accident in Brooklyn.
According to several reports, the unidentified man was attempting to cross the street on Wednesday at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue near Atlantic Terminal when he was hit by the driver of a large truck. Apparently, the truck driver did not notice that he had hit the man and he kept going until someone alerted him of the accident. As a result, the pedestrian was dragged under the truck for at least 15 - 20 feet. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and police are still investigating the situation.
Driving a large truck in the city is a difficult task, as these vehicles need to navigate through the same tight spaces that are shared by much smaller vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians. While such a job is admittedly difficult, truck drivers are still expected to perform at a reasonable level or else they and perhaps their employers could be found liable for damages if they cause accidents. No word has yet been given as to how this could have happened or what led to this incident. The truck driver is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.
When a family loses a loved one in an accident that was not that loved one's fault, that family is usually sent reeling by the shock and grief that suddenly overwhelms it. That can make it very difficult to understand how to proceed, but families in this position need to make sure that they evaluate all of their legal rights and options so they can potentially avoid additional difficulties in the future. That evaluation should be done by New York accident attorneys. If you have lost someone in a crash, contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of situations where someone receives medical care involve a doctor performing capably and properly for that patient, doctors are also human and they will make mistakes just like anyone else. One of the worst mistakes that can be made by a doctor is to miss a diagnosis of a condition that a patient has contracted. Not only can a patient pay a heavy price for this mistake, but he or she can pay with his or her life. Sadly, that happens more often than most people would think.
Stopping for Crossing Wildlife on a Highway Can Lead to Serious Car Accidents
Written by New York Injury Lawyer Monday, 08 April 2013 12:16
If you have spent any time driving in rural areas, you know that it’s somewhat likely that you are going to see wildlife as you travel. Deer, ducks, geese and several other types of animals tend to live and move around near roads that cut through unpopulated areas, and drivers need to be aware of them in order to avoid hitting them. This is especially true if animals that could wind up in the road are large enough to cause serious damage to a passing vehicle.

You have a child to care for and raise now, and that responsibility is all at once humbling, daunting and very exciting.
Study Shows Differences in Accidents That Occur in New York and Los Angeles Compared to Rest of United States
Written by New York Injury Lawyer Monday, 01 April 2013 12:42
The urbanization of the United States is something that appears to be happening again after decades of seeing the population spread out into the suburbs and then into different parts of the country. As a result of this phenomenon, different traffic patterns are forming and different norms are accepted in enormous cities such as Los Angeles and New York as compared to places with smaller populations. In the United States, that’s obviously every other metropolitan area, as these are the two biggest cities in the country.
Bronx Hit-and-Run Accident Takes the Lives of Two Men
Written by New York Injury Lawyer Monday, 01 April 2013 11:59
Every year across New York, more than 300 people are killed by vehicles while they are out walking. More than 15,000 people are injured, and for the most part motorists who collide with pedestrians will remain at the scene of the crash so that the police and rescue workers can properly do their jobs. Unfortunately, in a city like New York, motorists who do flee the scenes of crashes can be difficult to find for obvious reasons. This is especially true when a crash happens during the early hours of the day.
Tragically, that appears to be what happened this morning as two men were found dead after an apparent hit-and-run accident that occurred in The Bronx. The men were found at approximately 4:30 a.m. under the overpass of the Bruckner Expressway at the intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and East 138th Street. The names of the men were not provided, but they were immediately pronounced dead. In addition, police have not yet determined the exact time that the accident occurred. They are asking anyone who may have information regarding the crash to come forward.
Obviously, this could be a very difficult situation for the families of the men who were killed to handle. Not only have they lost loved ones in a very sudden and violent manner, but they do not know who could have done this to them. Hopefully the police are able to identify the driver involved and apprehend a suspect so that the wheels of justice can begin to turn and so that the family members of the men who were killed are able to at least move towards some sort of closure on the matter.
If the driver is caught, he or she will likely face serious criminal charges. The driver could also face a New York wrongful death lawsuit if the families of the men who were killed decide to initiate such a step. If they do and their case is ultimately successful, the families could recover damages that compensate them for their losses. If you have lost someone you love in a crash, you need to seek the help of New York accident lawyers as soon as possible. Woman in Queens Hit and Killed by Truck
Written by New York Injury Lawyer Wednesday, 27 March 2013 15:13
Every year in New York, more than 15,000 pedestrian accidents take place. These crashes lead to nearly as many injuries and to more than 300 fatalities. That's more than 41 accidents per day, and sadly those statistics will soon include a Queens pedestrian accident that took the life of a woman last night. According to an account of the incident provided by the police, the woman who was killed was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of 47th Street and Laurel Hill Boulevard at approximately 11:15 p.m.
The unidentified woman was 22 years old, and it appears that she was hit by the driver of a Chevrolet truck. She apparently lived approximately one half of a mile from where she was hit. Rescue workers rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she did not survive. The police would not say whether or not any criminality was suspected in the crash, but they continuing to investigate the matter. The name of the driver involved in the crash was not released.
People who walk around in the city need to adhere to the traffic laws that govern these situations. However, if or when they do they also need to be able to trust that motorists will follow the laws and drive responsibly. It is simply too early to know exactly what happened last night and what caused the crash, but if it turns out that the driver was at fault then the family of the woman who was killed could respond by filing a New York wrongful death lawsuit. Wrongful death lawsuits that result in a verdict for the plaintiffs generally lead to awards of damages that compensate for several different forms of loss.
The statistics regarding New York pedestrian accidents have remained steady for several years. As such, it stands to reason that 15,000 people will be injured in these crashes this year. Those who are need to take steps to stand up for their legal rights. If you or someone you love has been injured or worse in this sort of an accident, you need to contact the New York accident lawyers at Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald to schedule a free initial consultation.
