6-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured in New York Pedestrian Accident

Anyone who has any experience driving a vehicle understands that there are certain rules and regulations in place when sharing the road with a school bus.  Specifically, when a school bus stops and puts out its warning lights and sign, motorists are supposed to stop and wait for the school bus driver to turn off the warning.  Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be what occurred yesterday in a Monsey pedestrian accident that seriously injured a 6-year-old boy getting off of a school bus.

According to authorities, this New York pedestrian accident occurred yesterday at 3:45 p.m. at Suzanne Drive and Lenore Avenue.  The boy left the school bus and crossed the street in front of the bus when he was hit by a vehicle being driven by Evyatar Biton, 27, of Monsey.  Apparently, the driver failed to stop for the bus' warning signals and the boy was badly hurt.  He was rushed to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.  Police have since charged Biton with misdemeanors that include second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.  Biton was also charged with passing a school bus, a violation.

New York Pedestrian Accident Statistics

First and foremost, we'd like to offer our hope that the unidentified boy is able to survive his injuries and get back into his life as soon as posisble.  In addition, we hope that justice is done in this case.  This Monsey pedestrian accident will also now become part of the overall statistics regarding New York pedestrian accidents.  Every year, more than 15,000 such crashes occur that lead to nearly as many injuries and to more than 300 deaths.

New York Personal Injury Lawyers

It seems quite clear that the driver was at fault for this Monsey pedestrian accident.  In addition to the forthcoming criminal prosecution, this could lead to the filing of a New York personal injury lawsuit filed by the family of the boy.  If the lawsuit is filed and is successful, it could lead to an award of damages that compensate the family for their medical costs, pain and suffering and other forms of loss that were suffered.

If you or someone you love has been injured by a negligent driver, you need to seek the help of New York personal injury lawyers who have been holding those responsible for this type of harm accountable for many years.  Contact Fitzgerald & Fitzgerald today to schedule a free initial consultation.
