Sending a child out for milk or to run a quick errand is something that parents all over the city do regularly without even thinking twice.  Tragically, what began as a regular morning for one area family quickly turned into tragedy when an 11-year-old boy was killed in a Bronx pedestrian accident.  He had been sent by his mother to a nearby store to buy some milk, but he never made it home, and it appears he was killed very near his home. 

According to authorities, this Bronx pedestrian accident occurred on Wednesday morning just after 7:45 a.m. when 11-year-old Russell Smith was crossing the Grand Concourse near 183rd Street in the Tremont section.  As he was doing so, the traffic light turned red before he could complete his crossing.  He was hit by a passing motorist and rushed to a nearby hospital.  Unfortunately, he could not overcome his severe head injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.
